How fast can I become a project manager?

I'm eager to become a project manager, like as soon as possible. What is the best and fastest path for me (a developer) to become a project manager. I would like to become a project manager in no more than a year. I'm a developer for 3 years now (and I've had enough!).

One year (even less) is not far fetched if you have what it takes to become a project manager: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/1117/do-i-have-what-it-takes-to-be-a-project-manager .

By the way, 3 years is not a lot as a developer, most people work as developers for a decade until they move to something else.

Now the fastest path is to get involved in some scheduling tasks in your current project, and then ask your project manager if you can assist him in developing project plans, and then try to find a job in another company as a junior project manager. I'm telling you to switch companies because it's really hard to jump from a developer to project manager in the same company unless you have an excellent relationship with your superior(s) and the latter has no insecurity when it comes to accommodating your ambitions..
