Agile waterfall hybrid

Is it possible to manage a project using an agile-waterfall hybrid methodology?

In my opinion, an agile-waterfall hybrid methodology (if it's possible) gets the best of both worlds: it gets the structure of the waterfall methodology and the iterative nature and the best practices of Agile.

So, is such a methodology possible?

Sure this is possible ... and adopting such a hybrid model allows you to insert some check points for budgeting and scope planning for another set of iterations.  You can stop, take stock of where you are and how you want to go forward, and start a new iterative cycle.  It gets the method closer to what was once called programming by stepwise refinement.
