Is project management good for short term projects?

I am about to start a very short term project and I'm wondering whether it would be wise or not to apply project management to this project or not (whether it's a waste of time and money to do so or not).

Can anyone advise? Do we really need PM for short term projects?

Project management is good for any project, regardless of its size. Even if the project is only two weeks long, then you need to apply project management to it (there is no "mini project management", see: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/2989/is-there-such-thing-as-mini-project-management )

If your project is very small, then all the project documents will be small as well (so, for your two week project, your project charter will be 1 page long, your project plan will be 2 page long, your lessons learned will take about 30 minutes to gather, etc...). Yes project management does have overhead, but the thing is, that overhead is directly proportional to the size of the project.

PS: Anything that takes less than a week is not a project, but rather a task (that's my opinion anyway), and it's not worth it to apply formal PM to.
