PMI PDU Audit

I heard that PMI does not only audit the PMP applications, but it also audits the PDUs that you report to them. I wonder what kind of audit do they run in this case? How do they check if the PDUs are genuine or not? And what happens if PMI finds out that someone has cheated on his PDU claim? Will they revoke his PMP status?

When submitting your PDU claims, note that you are coached to file the claim and the evidence in the event of an audit.  So if you claim one PDU for attending a one hour talk at a local dinner meeting, save the receipt the Chapter will provide.  If you take a class, save the receipt and/or certificate you earned. One nice thing that happens is that local Chapters sometimes file the PDU claim for you and at many PMI sponsored events, badges with bar codes are distributed and greeters at the doors to seminars and workshops will scan your badge.

PMPs, volunteers, those awaiting to take exams, and anyone associated with PMI have agreed to abide by a code of ethics.  Depending on the severity of the infraction against the code, PMP status and/or membership could be revoked.

To tell you the truth, there are enough free and reduced cost PDUs available that it is hardly worth the effort to cheat.  Spending an average of 20 hours a year on learning or volunteer activities is pretty minimal.
