How to reduce project management costs?

I'm trying to get buy-in from management to adopt project management in our small but traditional company, but the thing is I'm sure that they won't agree because of the overhead associated with project management (I have to be honest in my report).

Is there a way to reduce project management costs so that I can convince management to ride the PM bandwagon?

The best part about the PMBOK Guide is there is not a prescribed solution and you can scale practices to fit your circumstances.  I suggest finding one or two practices that would show benefit to the organization, then upon successful implementation, trying more.  You can adopt project management one practice at a time.
