Project management attrition rate

I think most of the articles out there focus on how project management is largely adopted by organizations, but nobody is speaking about those companies that just quit on project management and return to managing project their own way. Why is this? Is it that project management has no attrition whatsoever (once a company uses it, it uses it forever)? In case the answer is no to the previous question, then what is project management's attrition rate?

I have never heard of any attrition rate when it comes to project management. Once an organization adopts project management it strives to maintain its adoption and enhance its level or project management maturity.

I'm not sure (and I'm just being skeptical) but it might that very small companies might adopt project management for a while and then quit simply because they can't afford to have a project manager on board.
