What are the resource leveling advantages?

Yesterday, and during my project management course, the teacher told me that resource leveling has many disadvantages and she explained them all. She didn't mention any advantage and she told me that I should avoid it at all costs.

I am now thinking, what's the point of having this concept in project management if it should be avoided at all times. I mean there must be at least one advantage to resource leveling, so what is it?

Well, the main (and very obvious) advantage to the resource leveling is that you won't have over-allocated resources, which means that the productivity of these resources will increase.

The reason why everyone thinks that resource leveling is bad is because it's a known fact that when a project manager levels the resources in his project schedule, it means that he didn't do a good job creating the project schedule in the first place.
