Project Management Field (construction, IT, etc)

I'd like to know what kinds of fields are in project management.

I assume that IT is the main sector in the project management field.  However, I will be graduating with a sociology degree so it will be hard for me to learn the software from the scratch, compared to computer engineering grads.

From my knowledge, the other main sector is construction, and construction management is where I believe I can take a few college courses and apply for jobs such as project coordinator or project manager assistant (please tell me if I'm completely off).

Are there any other sectors in project management that I should be looking into, or is construction management the only possible career for me?

PS. I have read an article by a construction manager that construction management is a seasonal job due to severe weather in the winter. Is this true? If so, how is the salary range similar to that of IT managers?

Thank you for your time.

Here are the main project management fields (that I know of):

- IT
- Construction
- Engineering
- Legal (Legal Project Management is very new)

Construction (and not construction management) is a seasonal job for (usually) blue collar workers in cold countries (Canada, the north of the US, etc...). As a construction project manager, you will always have work to do.

Construction project managers are paid at least 10% more than IT Project Managers, and salaries of construction project managers are exorbitant in the Middle East (Qatar, UAE, etc...)

As for the part of your question about taking a few courses to become a construction PM, I advise you to check this question: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/3544/what-education-requirements-construction-project-manager
