What is a project endorser?

What is the role and what are the responsibilities of a project endorser? Does this role actually exists or is it a role invented by our company? I couldn't find some decent information about it anywhere, but again, the role does exist in our company.

I don't believe this is a formal project management role.  An endorser is someone who lends their name to something, similar to the way celebrities are used to endorse products in media ads.  So I imagine its possible to get a senior executive to provide a few words about how important your project is to the company, which could help motivate the project team or generate more buy in to the project.
