Is the PMP a methodology?

I'm very new to the project management world so forgive me for the question if you think it's stupid.

I was reading about PMP the other day and I'm lost on whether it's a project management methodology or not. Can someone clarify this for me, and confirms if the PMP is a methodology (or not)?

PMP is a certification based on the PMBOK Guide.  The PMBOK Guide is generally considered as a collection of good/best practices and is a framework on which methodologies may be built (see http://projectmanagementquestions.com/4628/is-the-pmbok-a-standard-or-a-methodology ).  It is also an American National Standard per NIST (National Institute of Science and Technology) located in suburban Washington DC.
