Anybody knows when PMI intends to change the PMP exam? I hear the change is almost upon us, is this true?

Yes, it is true.  The exam will change in September.   Please see the answer to http://projectmanagementquestions.com/3715/is-the-pmp-exam-changing .

The PMBOK Guide is an ANSI standard, which means the PMBOK Guide will change every 4-5 years (PMI targets 4).  The exam usually changes within a year of that.  Please also see http://projectmanagementquestions.com/925/when-is-the-next-version-of-pmbok-pmbok-version-5-is-coming#3287 .

Bottom line: if you are eligible, take the exam before September.  Otherwise, you may lengthen the amount of time needed either through changed qualifications or changed information in the standard that you will need to review and absorb.

It may get more complicated in the future.  PMI and others are working on making the PMBOK Guide an ISO standard. Isn't non-procastination always better for PMs? :)
