Is PRINCE2 a methodology?

Can we, as project managers, say that PRINCE2 is a project management methodology? Does the OGC claim that their PRINCE2 is a PM methodology? If they do, do fellow project managers believe that PRINCE2 deserves the status of a methodology?

According to PRINCE2's official website, PRINCE2 is a methodology - see http://www.prince2.com/prince2-structure.asp .

Now the question is, is PRINCE2 really a methodology for those project managers who don't work for the OGC (The Office of Government Commerce - the people who created PRINCE2). Let's check this answer on the characteristics of a PM methodology: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/3603/characteristics-of-a-project-management-methodology

Now let's answer these questions:

- Can PRINCE2 be used to manage a project from A to Z? Yes, it can.
- Is PRINCE2 easy? Although PRINCE2 has a steep learning curve, it becomes pretty easy once the project manager is used to it. So the answer would be yes.
- Is PRINCE2 tested? Many project managers, especially in Europe, have used or are currently using PRINCE2 to manage their projects, and it's working for them (for years now). So yes, it is tested.
- Is PRINCE2 tailored to a specific industry? No, it's not, it can be used in any industry. It can be used in the construction industry, software industry, healthcare industry, etc...
- Is PRINCE2 comprehensive? Definitely, you won't need to use a supplementary process to manage your projects using PRINCE2.

Bottom line, PRINCE2 defines a project management methodology (which is somewhat waterfall - see: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/3790/is-prince2-waterfall ).

prince2.com is not the official website for PRINCE2. It is held by a commercial training company.

PRINCE2 is owned by the UK Government's Cabinet Office.  The official site is here:
