Is the project management institute accredited?

I want to know whether the PMI (Project Management Institute) is an accredited (by any US body, such as the The Higher Learning Commission) organization or not.

Please provide a reference to your answer if you're claiming it's accredited. I couldn't find any official resource attesting its accreditation.

The PMI is not accredited by the "Council for Higher Education Accreditation", you can search here: http://www.chea.org/search/default.asp and you will not find it. Thus the PMI is not considered an official university or a body of higher education.

However, PMI's PMBOK is approved by ANSI (American National Standards Institute).

Now the question is, should it matter for you?

Now with over 400,000 members, PMI has an excellent reputation across the globe, and nearly every company knows of its existence and of the importance of its credentials. So my answer is, I don't think it should matter.
