When did project management start?

When did project management, in current incarnation, start? I'd like to know when modern project management started officially, and where?

Please don't lead me back to the era of the pyramids. Of course, the pyramids were a project, but project management (as we know it today), was not applied.

Personally I don't think project management (again, as practiced today) is more than a century old.

It's actually less than 60 years old. Project Management started becoming formal in the 50's of the last century (1950 something). It is at this time when companies started seeing project management as a different practice from traditional management. Project Management started in the US (of course, this statement is easily debatable).
