What are the pre-project activities?

What are the activities that happen just before the project? Are these activities standard and the same for every project and every project type?

Pre-project activities are activities before the project even starts (before the zero date, see: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/523/what-is-the-zero-date-in-a-software-development-project ). Pre-project activities are different for each industry, but generally include:

- Logistics: Where is the work going to be done? Are there enough PCs? Do we have an Internet Connection?
- Contract review: Are we sure that everyone understands the contract and everyone is on board?
- Expectations management: The project manager should tame the client's and the stakeholders' expectations before the project even starts.
- Financials: Some company funds must be set aside to make sure that the project will have enough money to be executed.
