What is the difference between the project plan and the project schedule?

I often use these two terms interchangeably as I'm very new to project management, yet I'm quite sure that they are different. So what differs the project plan from the project schedule?

project schedule is a subset of project plan

Project schedule contains information about work packages, activities, assinged resources, etc.

Project Management Plan says HOW the project will be managed. E.g. Scope management plan is saying, HOW requirements will be collected, how scope will be managed, how it will be controlled. etc. It is similar for other knowledge areas (Time management, Cost management, Quality Management, Human Resources Management, Communication managemet, Risk management, Procurement management).
