Can someone explain the differences between the main roles of business analysts and system analysts. They both sound the same thing, or is the system analyst more technical than the business analyst?

Yes the system analyst is much more technical than the business peer. The roles are quite different. The business analyst is responsible for studying a business (and sometimes a project) to see how it can be made better. The systems analyst does exactly the same thing, but with software and hardware.

Both the system analyst and the business analyst maybe involved at the project management level, giving necessary feedback for the project manager.
