Projects are executed through the interactions of a system of people and processes.  A Project Managers who take a system perspective understand that their primary job is to manage the relationships between the people and processes that make up the system in order to ensure  the effectiveness efficiency of the interactions.  System thinkers understand that everything is connected to everything else and that fixing or improving a part of the system, may not be in the best interest of the system as a whole.  Being a systems thinker is a critical part of being a competent problem solver and decision maker.
