What does the term "resource overallocation" mean in MS project? Is it when resources are allocated more than 100% on any particular day?

What to do to resolve resource overallocation in the project schedule (in MS project)?

In MS Project, you can set how many hours a resource normally works a day (usually, that number is 8 hours on weekdays, and 0 on Saturday and Sunday). When the total number of hours, on any day, exceeds the number of working hours for that day, then you will have resource overallocation. For example, let's say that your number of working hours on Friday is 5 hours (people tend to leave early in your company on Friday or tend to work less).  So, if you assign a resource on a task (or a combination of tasks) that exceeds 5 hours on Friday, then you will have a resource overallocation problem.

Resource overallocation can be solved either by reviewing your whole project schedule, or by using resource leveling or resource smoothing (see: http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/2880/resource-smoothing)
