How can you become a PMI REP?

We are a small company offering project management training to the local companies. We heard that becoming a PMI REP (Project Management Institute Registered Education Provider) can increase our sales and can differentiate us from the competition. Is that true?

Also, what is the fastest way for a company to become a PMI REP? And are there any fees associated with it?

In order to become an PMI REP (Registered Education Provider):

- You need to be a business (not an individual) that has a history of at least 1 year of teaching project management.

- You need to have an actual syllabus and qualified PM trainers for training project managers - the syllabus must be good and must comply with the PMI standards as defined by the PMBOK (it doesn't have to be about the PMBOK, but it needs to be aligned with the PMBOK).

- You will need to adhere to PMI's professional code of ethics.

- You will need to pay the yearly fees.

As a PMI REP, you are eligible for awarding PDUs at the end of each project management training/course to successful candidates. Note that bestowing PDUs on successful candidates is both a privilege and a requirement (you are required to bestow PDUs as part of being a PMI REP - this is not optional).

Full requirements can be found here: http://www.pmi.org/Professional-Development/~/media/PDF/Professional-Development/REPCriteria.ashx although I think most of those seeking to become PMI REPs will mostly be interested in the requirements I've listed above (the remaining requirements listed in the aforementioned link are, in my opinion, redundant, and they're just there to make the PMI REP requirements look very steep).

Now there is one time fee of $250, and then there are yearly fees of at least $1,250 (so for the first year you will need to pay at least $1,500). The full fee schedule for the PMI REP can be found here: http://www.pmi.org/Professional-Development/~/media/PDF/Professional-Development/REPProgramApplication.ashx?FirstName=&LastName=&Company.Name=&Email=&Submit=Submit&udf5_c=REP+website&udf18_c=REP+reg+on+PMI.org
