What happens if my eligibility expires and I did not take the PMP exam?

I'm very close to the 1 year eligibility deadline, and I have yet to take the PMP exam. What will happen if I don't take it by the deadline, do I have to reapply again from scratch? Will this "red-flag" my file as someone who is not serious about the PMP?

If you don't take the exam in that year you will lose all the money you have paid (PMI won't even refund you in this case), and you will have to reapply from scratch.

I don't think PMI will put a black mark on your record if you didn't take the exam even after successfully applying. This is not mentioned anywhere in their handbook.
