Conflicts among these types of managers are often triggered by different perspectives. Functional and line managers perceive that there is specific work to be accom[plished in a defined timeframe. They may view projects as "endless activities" with deadlines that frequently move. Also, functiinal and line managers need to be assured that projects that require their direct reports will actually benefit them and/or their groups.
The conflicts may occur over the actual work to be performed on a project as well as timing and priorities.
