This is like you're saying you need more explanation on whether project management is needed or not. This is explained here:
http://www.projectmanagementquestions.com/879/why-do-we-need-project-management
In any case, if you want me to give an answer to your question as it is, then I would say the advantages of using projects to do work in your company is that everything will be organized:
- You will know how much the work will exactly cost.
- You will know when it will start and when it will finish.
- You will know who will be assigned to this work.
- You will know who is responsible/accountable for this work.
- You will know who will manage the work.
The disadvantages of using projects is that for some work you don't need all the overhead of project management. Additionally, following are some other disadvantages:
- Every project can be manipulated by company politics.
- Scapegoating the project manager is a favorite especially to make up for bad decisions.
- The structure that a project and project management creates may be demotivating for team members, and it may also kill creativity.
