Stakeholder management challenges

What are the challenges that a project management usually face when dealing with his stakeholders? Are these challenges only related to the expectations and demands of the stakeholders?

How does the project manager overcome these challenges?

Perhaps some of the biggest challenges to stakeholder management lie with the project sponsor.  The appropriate role of the project sponsor is not always well understood by the senior executives in that position.  It is best overcome by over communicating and training.  Peter Taylor, author of The Lazy Project Manager recently started a LinkedIn group called Project Sponsors -- you  might want to consider looking at the discussions and resources there.
