How to calculate the planned value?

How do you calculate the planned value of a project? If there is a formula then please provide it. Also, please give me an example where you calculate the planned value of a small project.

Is the planned value equivalent to the project budget?

The planned value is simply what the plan tells you.  If you expect to spend $10,000 per week and you are at the end of week 3, the planned value is $10,000.  In cases where it isn't quite so obvious, you just need to take a fair proportionate amount. Hopefully the planned value is related to the budget or close to it.
