What causes informal authority?

We usually don't answer multiple questions on this website (they are immediately deleted), but your question is interesting enough.

Usually informal authority is caused by the all of the above, which means that the project manager has to be a leader, with technical/industry knowledge (especially in IT projects). Additionally, the more experienced the project manager the more informal authority he will get. Finally, the project manager cannot be a jerk, he has to respect himself and he has to respect others (nobody will recognize your authority, even if it's formal, if he doesn't respect you).
