What is the authority of project expeditor?

How much authority does the project expeditor have? And does this authority surpass that of the project manager? Is the project expeditor's authority formal and informal, and who decides how much authority this role has?

The authority project expeditors (or is it expediters?) is usually minimal, this is because their role is restricted to reporting. Their communication with the project team is merely to get updates about the project status and nothing else.

Since the project manager does not have a formal authority of his own, and the role of the project expeditor falls under that of the PM, then the expeditor's authority is informal, and again, can only be, at best, minimal.
