What is the difference between software and IT projects?

I am bit confused. I don't see any difference between software projects and IT projects, yet almost all references seem to think they are different. So what exactly are the difference between the 2, and can you give an example of a software project and an IT project so I can clearly see the differences?

Software is but one aspect of IT.  IT can include facilities, hardware, bandwidth, networks, shared services, and many layers of software such as apps, plug-ins, remote procedure calls, etc.
