Who is responsible for the project results?

Who is the person/entity responsible for the project results? Is it the project manager, the project sponsor, or the project stakeholders?

By project results I mean the project success or the project failure (and what they entail).

The project manager is responsible of the project results to the project sponsor, and the project sponsor is responsible of the project results to the organization and the client/customer. This is because the project sponsor (and not the project manager), owns the project charter.
