Who are the 3 quality gurus?

I have read the term the "3 quality gurus" several times ever since I jumped in into project management (I'm not a project manager yet, but I'm doing some project management tasks) a few months ago. Who are the 3 quality gurus? And why should I, as a (future) project manager, care about them?

The 3 quality gurus are:

- Joseph Moses Juran (born 1904) who devised the Pareto Principle. He's considered to be the father of quality management in the West.
- Philip Bayard Crosby (born 1926) is the man behind the "14 Step Quality Improvement Process", notably the Zero Defects program.
- William Edwards Deming (born 1900) wrote the very famous "14 points for Management."

If you don't know why you should care about quality, then you shouldn't be a project manager.

Deming is also known for his work on continuous improvement.  He showed there is a relationship between quality, costs, and effort.  When people focus on quality, costs tend to fall.  When people focus on costs, costs tend to rise.
